A few days ago I posted my foundation routine video to YouTube. I had written out (and published) a blog post along with it, but it disappeared a while after I had originally posted it. I am sorry if you’re seeing this post twice, but I had to re-write this entire post ASAP 🙂
In 2013 I finally found a foundation combination that truly works well for my oily & acne prone skin. I have struggled for years over foundation products, but now I feel like I actually have a routine that REALLY works, rather than works “good enough” for me. With this foundation routine, I can cover up acne, acne scarring, and don’t wind up a greasy mess at the end of the day. Curious to find out what products I use? Keep on reading!
- BECCA Cosmetics Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector (review) – Best. Primer. Ever. I have a review on this so I’m not going to harp on it, but if you have oily skin, you need to try it out.
- Beauty Blender – I received one of these little pink sponges last year & haven’t looked back- this sponge gives an amazing finish…almost airbrushed. I also think this doesn’t compromise the coverage of my foundation. I hear a lot of people say the BB gives a light coverage, but as you can see in my video, it’s very medium-full coverage. It all depends on what foundation you use.
- Jouer Matte Moisture Tint in Linen – I’m a big fan of Jouer, and have blogged about a lot of their products. Surprisingly, I haven’t done one on this product! Essentially, it’s a matte tinted moisturizer. I get pretty good coverage on it’s own, maybe medium coverage that will look perfect with some concealer on any blemishes. This tint does stay quite matte throughout the day- even without powder. Linen is a tad too dark for me now, so that’s why I mix it with my foundation.
- BECCA Cosmetics Ever Matte Shine Proof Foundation in Shell- I purchased this foundation online, so I didn’t get the perfect shade match. However, the formula is amazing. If I had a shade just a touch darker, I would exclusively use this foundation. It works really great with the BECCA primer, of course…I am so glad I tried BECCA because I’m obsessed with everything I’ve tried from them.
- NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla (review) – This concealer is amazing under the eyes. It’s moisturizing, but it sets nicely and doesn’t look oily. I have used it on blemishes and I like it, but because my shade is a touch lighter, it doesn’t blend in as well.
- NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (review) – I like to apply eye primer during my foundation routine so it has time to dry before applying shadow. I am in love with this primer- it’s the best for oily eyelids, and because it isn’t tinted, it works on any skin tone.
- Temptu S/B Concealer Wheel – I like this concealer, but I would much prefer to use one shade instead of using a wheel and guessting the perfect color. I’m not sure I love using silicone based products on my face anymore, because they seem to make me look oily at the end of the day. But, I will use it up as much as possible. It does cover blemishes well!
- Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Powder Foundation in 117 (review) – I really like this powder because it gives a nice amount of color to my face and neck. I don’t know if I’d repurchase it, because I like to try new things, and I’m sure there is some powder out there that will help prevent oil even more than this, because it isn’t described as a mattifying powder.
- Mehron Celebre Pro Loose Mineral Finishing Powder – I just recently started using this powder again to help prevent oil. It’s transparent, but sometimes looks a bit white if I add too much. I prefer to use it just in my t-zone and then use my MUFE powder to set the rest of my foundation.
My goal would be to narrow it down a bit more this year, but I’m a big proponent of using what you have, so I make do. I will definitely change to one foundation once I run out, and just purchase the proper shade. But, all of these products work fabulously on their own, so I would recommend them if you have oily skin like I do.
