Floral Radiant Orchid Nail Art Tutorial Video Lime Crime Lavendairy China Glaze That's Shore Bright

Radiant Orchid is the color of the year, and it has been seen everywhere! From fashion, to makeup, and now to nails! I have done a few Radiant Orchid makeup tutorials already, but I am most excited to share my nail tutorial with you because it’s the most wearable for anyone!

All you need for this tutorial:

  • Base Coat (Orly Bonder)
  • A lavender (I used Lime Crime Lavendairy)
  • A darker orchid (I used China Glaze That’s Shore Bright)
  • Nail art dotting tools (found on amazon or ebay)
  • Top Coat (Seche Vite)

After painting on base coat, polish on 2 coats of lavender polish. After that dries, use your dotting tool to create a flower shape with your orchid polish (see video for diagram), use the same dotting tool to dot the lavender polish in the center of each flower. Seal with top coat.

It’s as easy as that! I love simple nail art, and I think any of you can recreate it! Don’t forget to send me your recreation photos on social media…get creative!

Essie Cocktails & Coconuts (Spring 2014 Collection) Review & Swatch

Essie Cocktails & Coconuts Swatch Review

Essie Cocktails & Coconuts Swatch

I recently have been liking nude nails after finally finding one that looks good on me. So, when I saw Essie Cocktails & Coconuts from their new spring 2014 collection, I was excited to try it. It is described as a warm sand with shimmer. I find that it looks a lot more cool toned on my nails, personally, so I don’t really love it. I wish it was warmer tones so my hands didn’t look so dead! I will say that it had a nice formula, but the shimmer wasn’t totally noticeable. I used 2 coats for this polish. I think it would look better on people with a skin tone darker than mine, though. But, if you are fair like I am, check out my favorite nude nail polish that I posted about last month!

Have you tried this polish out? What do you think?

This month I only had a few favorites, but surprisingly I wound up talking longer than usual…want to see the products I’ve been loving? Watch the video!:

  • COVERGIRL Bombshell Volume Mascara: I like this dual phase mascara for volumizing and making dark lashes. I use the #2 on my lower lashes too! I featured this mascara in my Covergirl Bombshell Collection tutorial & Valentine’s Day Makeup Tutorial if you want to see it in action!
  • Ardency Inn Long Play Lip Vinyl (Original Mix, Club Remix): I love these ultra pigmented glosses with a patent shine, if you want to see them on my lips, check out my Ardency Inn review I posted not too long ago!
  • Inglot Matte Eyeshadows (#330, #351, #337, #358, #117R): I’ve loved these shadows for years, but this month they have been all I’ve used. I even use them in my brows. My favorites are the matte shades, because they are so pigmented!
  • Benefit Dandelion Boxed Powder Blush: I really love this natural cheek color. It has been hidden away in my collection for a while, but I’m glad I pulled it out again because it’s the perfect every day color!
  • Jessica Cosmetics Bend Don’t Break Nail Treatment: You may have seen my thoughts on this product along with my Jessica “Coral Symphony” collection review I just posted. I really love this nail strengthening treatment because my nails have been growing out easily with no breakage!
  • Paula’s Choice 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) Liquid Exfoliant: I still need to post my full review, but I am loving this daily exfoliant to smooth out my skin. My skin has never felt this soft! And because it is salicylic acid, it prevents acne! Check out the other products I bought in my Dermstore.com haul!

What were your favorite products this month?

Jessica Cosmetics “Coral Symphony” Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Swatches & Review

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Conch Shell, Monsoon Melon, Ocean Bloom, Sharktooth, Starfish Glow, Tropical Sunset Swatches Review (2)

Jessica Cosmetics “Coral Symphony” Collection for Spring 2014

As we are approaching spring (and L.A. is pretty much in spring already)…it’s time to incorporate spring colors into our routine again! Goodbye dark & dreary shades…time for pastels and brights! I got a surprise package from Jessica Cosmetics of this brand new Coral Symphony collection for spring, and I am so excited to show the colors to you today!

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Conch Shell, Monsoon Melon, Ocean Bloom, Sharktooth, Starfish Glow, Tropical Sunset Swatches Review

Sharktooth, Conch Shell, Starfish Glow, Tropical Sunset, Monsoon Melon, Ocean Bloom

Jessica’s Coral Symphony collection features 6 shades, which are all cream finishes.

  • Sharktooth: bright white
  • Conch Shell: light barbie pink
  • Starfish Glow: mid-tone coral-pink
  • Tropical Sunset: pale coral-red
  • Monsoon Melon: cantaloupe peach
  • Ocean Bloom: orchid purple

Jessica nail polishes are fast drying and are free of harmful ingredients such as toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP. Now, let’s get on to the swatches! (P.S. all of the swatches are done on bare nails with no base or top coat- 2 coats of each color is applied)

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Sharktooth Swatch Review

Jessica “Sharktooth” swatch

Sharktooth is a bright white nail polish. It applies streaky with the first coat, but a second coat evens it all out. You may need a 3rd coat if you’re not careful! It’s definitely one of the best white nail polishes I own. White nails are a great base for nail art, and are always a trendy nail color in the spring and summer because it makes you look tanner!

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Conch Shell Swatch Review

Jessica “Conch Shell” swatch

Conch Shell is the perfect spring pink. It isn’t too pale and it’s a bright obnoxious hot pink. It applied perfectly in 2 coats! I liked this one because it didn’t make my hands look strange- definitely a flattering shade for my skin tone, personally.

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Starfish Glow Swatch Review

Jessica “Starfish Glow” swatch

Starfish Glow is a nice blend of pink and coral. When I first saw it, it reminded me of the starfish character from Finding Nemo…maybe that’s just because of the name! Peach the starfish is a pretty similar color though- maybe that was the inspiration! This shade also applied really well in 2 coats.

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Tropical Sunset Swatch Review

Jessica “Tropical Sunset” swatch

Tropical Sunset is a hot coral red. I think this shade is pretty unique because it is not a bright coral red per se, but it is not quite pastel. It’s kind of a darker version of coral. It applies fabulously in 2 coats, again. I think this shade is pretty unique- I can’t recall seeing any shade similar to this in my collection or in stores.

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Monsoon Melon Swatch Review

Jessica “Monsoon Melon” swatch

As you probably guessed, Monsoon Melon was the first polish from this collection to catch my eye. It reminds me of a cantaloupe melon, which makes sense because of the name! Although I have a ton of orange nail polishes, I don’t think I have any similar shades to this one. It is kind of a combination of a bright and pastel orange, making it the perfect “neutral” mid tone orange. I applied 2 coats of this one and though it gave a perfectly opaque finish.

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Spring 2014 Nail Polish Collection Ocean Bloom Swatch Review

Jessica “Ocean Bloom” swatch

Last but not least, Ocean Bloom is an orchid shade perfect for Pantone. The color of the year is radiant orchid after all, and this polish is a great match! It’s a lovely mix of pink & purple. Again, a perfect 2 coater.

Overall I really like this collection- it is a fun one! At first I thought the colors seemed pretty ordinary, but once I used them I changed my tune. They aren’t your typical pastel or brights, they are a combination of both. I love Jessica’s formula, they are long lasting and get minimal chipping. Jessica polishes retail for $8.40 online, and although this line isn’t on their site yet, it should be up soon! I will keep an eye out and update this post with the link.

Jessica Cosmetics Brilliance High Gloss In A Flash Top Coat, Bend Don't Break Nail Treatment Strengthener Review

Jessica Brilliance High Gloss In A Flash Top Coat & Bend Don’t Break Nail Treatment

I also wanted to review these two other products they sent me. First, Brilliance ($12.70), is a high gloss top coat that is supposed to dry quickly. Spoiler alert, it doesn’t! I like Seche Vite so much more. Although, this polish has less harmful ingredients, it underperformed for me. I painted my nails at 9pm, went to bed at 12 and woke up with sheet marks and dents all over my nail. Definitely not quick drying. But the other product, Bend Don’t Break ($16.50), I did like. I am growing my nails out and put this on in between painting my nails, letting them stay naked for about a day. I don’t wear this under polish because I didn’t think it lasted well. I will say that it is kind of hard to remove because it has polymers which make it quite a sticky product!

Lime Crime Lavendairy Nail Polish Swatch & Review

Lime Crime Lavendairy Swatch

Lime Crime Lavendairy Nail Polish Swatch

In the past few weeks I have come to realize what a luxury painting your nails is…I have been so busy in the past 2 1/2 weeks that I have not had the time to paint my nails until last night! So, I thought I would post my last manicure from IMATS weekend today. I picked Lime Crime Lavendairy nail polish because the color of the year is orchid, so I thought it would work nicely! I really like this shade for spring.

Lime Crime Lavendairy Swatch (2)

Lavendairy swatch

I only needed 2 coats, as this polish is very thick and opaque. I find that it chips rather quickly, though, about 24 hours of wear. But, maybe I need to use a different base/top coat combo.I think Lime Crime has some great colors to offer, but unfortunately all of their nail polishes are currently sold out. They are affordable, at only $8 a pop, which is a typical price I’d pay for a nail polish. Keep an eye out on Lime Crime’s site for when these come in stock, because their nail shades are a spring essential!
