COVERGIRL’s Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss is a polish with promises. It claims to be a base coat, color, and top coat all in one! Whenever I received this polish in a gift bag, I knew I had to test it topless. Without topcoat, that is! On day 1 I used 2 thin coats (I could have done a 3rd, but I was lazy) for an opaque finish. It was surprisingly shiny, so they are dead on with that one! It dried pretty fast as well. I used nail drying drops to speed up the process. So far, so good…let’s put it to the test!
On day 2 I was surprised how Crushed Berries held up. I had minor tip wear on my middle finger and a tiny chip on my thumb due to issues with a necklace’s lobster clasp. The layers of polish are so thin on the nail, so the chip was more of a scrape from my fight with the evil tiny lobster clasp.
On day 3, all of my nails have minor tip wear. No additional chips, though! This was when I knew this was a good product. I typically get major chips on the 3rd day for whatever reason, so I usually switch my nails up every 3 or 4 days. I am on a mission to make it to 7 days, like CG advertises!
Day 4 was when I got my first chip, on my pointer finger. My pointer finger always chips first, so this was no surprise! The rest of my nails look the same to me- I’m happy!
On day 5, Crushed Berries got a bit more tip wear, and my index fingers’ chip grew a bit larger. It’s still just as shiny as day 1! My nails have started to show some growth as well.
The chips on 2 of my nails have become a bit larger on day 6, but my other 3 nails are going strong with only tip wear. As you can see on the thumb, this polish doesn’t chip like your average polish, it’s ultra-thin layer scrapes off a bit at a time! At this point I am dying for a polish change…only 24 more hours!
At the end of the week, day 7, I celebrated how well this polish lasted. This “after” photo is similar to what a day 3 photo would look like on most of the polishes I own- and all of this is without top coat! I’m in awe that this nail polish lasted so well, stayed glossy, and was an overall success. I’m declaring this one a “cheap trick,” because it is AMAZING! Try to stop me from collecting all of the colors! Go-Go Mango will be my next one…would you expect anything different from me?
Run, don’t walk, to your favorite drugstore to find these for around $3.99!
