Lipstick is probably my #1 beauty vice. There are so many brands, colors, and finishes, I feel like you can never have enough! Today I decided to do the Lip Product Addict Tag, which was created by 2 of my favorite beauty bloggers, Amelia Liana and Essie Button. I couldn’t keep it to one product per question, as per usual, so get ready for a long & pic heavy post!
1. Favourite balm/treatment?
My favorite lip balm is by far the Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm. I reviewed a few scents before, but my favorite is my latest addition: Lemon & Chamomile! Seriously smells like fruit loops. These keep my lips flake-free and also have SPF 25!
I also chose Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask as a fave treatment, because I recently got it and have been using it religiously. I already reviewed it here, but it’s a great mask to put over lip balm at night, and you will wake up with it still on your lips!
2. Best eye-catching red?
One of my newest favorite reds is Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso. The color itself is just your average blue based red, but I love the formula of it. It dries ultra-matte, which is great for such a bold lip color. Because it’s matte, it lasts so much longer than a typical lipstick. I definitely want to try more shades in the future!
3. Best luxury & best drugstore?
My best, and only, luxury lip pick is the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in Orange De Chine. I hoard orange lip products hardcore, as they are my trademark. And when this innovative formula came out, I splurged. Love the color & the formula is unlike anything else. Kind of sticky, but the stain stays put for a long time- minimal reapplying!
And of course, I picked 2 drugstore products, because I just couldn’t choose:
Recently I have been obsessed with NYX Butter Lipstick in Pops. It’s such a perfect neutral with a bit of a pink undertone. I love matte lips, but this formula is nice and moisturizing, which I think is a better natural look on my lips.
My favorite line of lipsticks at the drugstore is the Wet N Wild Megalast Lipsticks. I love the wide array of colors, and you really can’t beat the price. The formula is a cream that isn’t too slippery, so they last a really long time. Only con is that the round bullet makes it hard to apply straight from the tube…ought to use a brush! I have posts (although super old/low quality) on my 5 shades: Don’t Blink Pink, 24 Carrot Gold, Purty Persimmon, Cherry Bomb, and Vamp It Up.
4. Best MAC lipstick?
THIS is the hardest question, because MAC lipsticks are what got me into lipstick in the first place. It is just so satisfying to collect those trademark black bullets, and who can resist the vanilla scent. I selected my most used shade, and my favorite formulation MAC makes.
My most used shade is MAC Lipstick in Media. I love the color, as it’s the perfect burgundy for fall. It’s a satin finish, so it goes on very creamy and has a creamy finish as well. This lipstick is what prompted my burgundy obsession a couple of years ago!
But, my favorite formulation of lipstick that MAC makes, is their matte lipsticks. They unfortunately don’t have the widest color range available (can I have a matte neon orange, PLEASE?!), but the pair that I have are well loved. I like this formula best because it is a true matte on the lips, and has a silicone texture so it isn’t very drying. They are also very long lasting for a lipstick!
First off, cult favorite, MAC Candy Yum Yum Lipstick. I picked this up once they made it permanent, that’s how popular it was! It’s the most neon pink ever, I love it.
My latest matte shade, MAC Lady Danger lipstick, is an orangey red that Miley Cyrus has worn. That sold it for me, but orange-reds are the most flattering red on me since I have yellow undertones.
5. The most disappointing?
I have been disappointed by very few products, as I am not too picky. If it’s pretty, I generally like it. But, there are 2 products that made it onto my beauty sh*t list in the past few years.
When I first tried out Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Cinnamon Kiss, I loved it! It became my go-to neutral lip. I even gave it a glowing review on here, but my opinion has changed due to faulty packaging. The tube somehow broke after only a few uses, and it is jammed in some way so that I can’t get the lipstick out. The tube won’t close all the way, either! Bummer! Loved the formula, but wouldn’t repurchase any other shades until they fix the packaging.
My other disappointment, which I have no photo of, is EOS lip spheres. Everyone loves them, but they broke my lips out in a rash of bumps. I must be allergic to them or something, because it happened both times I tested them out. I was so excited to try them when they first came out, I was so sad when I couldn’t use them! I like their shave cream, though.
6. Liner – yes or no?
I am a 100% yes lip liner person. I don’t wear it on a daily basis, but I think it’s essential for certain lip looks. I think a clear lip liner like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Anti-Feathered Clear Cosmetic Colour Pencil is the 1 lip liner everyone should have. It prevents feathering, which is definitely a concern with bold lips. I also like to wear a matching lip liner shade for my lipsticks. My favorite formula I’ve tried is Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Liner. I use shade 17C under my orange lipsticks. It lasts so long, and it’s waterproof!
7. Best gloss?
If you’ve followed my blog or YouTube channel for a while, you know I’m not a gloss lover I much prefer a matte lip- I hate that sticky feeling, and am not even super crazy about glossy lips. I’ve had to try a lot of gloss to review for my blog, and here are my 2 picks:
The best higher end gloss, in my opinion, is Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss. I love this formula because it is not sticky at all, it’s moisturizing, just like the name says! They have a few really pretty colors. I don’t love shimmery glosses, so I lean towards shades like Tender (my favorite, above), Peony, Monaco (lost it 🙁 ), Malibu, and Nude. These are sheer jelly shades & more pigmented cream shades that look amazing on the lips.
For a drugstore alternative, I chose the NYX Butter Gloss, which so many people are raving about. I have tried a lot of the shades to review, but handed them off to my sister after photographing. Right now I have Cherry Cheesecake, Apple Strudel, and Angel Food Cake. These are great pigmented glosses at a cheap price. They’re a little sticky, but it’s bearable, as they last longer.
8. Something extra!
My extra something, an honorable mention, if you will, are the OCC Lip Tars. They are unlike any other product on the market, and I’ve watched the brand go from a cult-favorite, to being sold in Sephora. Amazing! These are so versatile. Wear on their own, or mix your own custom color. There are wearable shades, and not-so-wearable shades to suit everyone’s personal taste. I personally am a big fan of the out-there shades, even though I don’t think I can pull them off in public!
I have quite a few lip tars (although I’d love more), and have reviewed quite a few of them. They do separate a bit over time, but you can mix them back together easily. They last for YEARS, as a little goes a long way! I have Mannequin, Anime, Pretty Boy, Banjee (discontinued), Androgyne Stained Gloss, Beta, Power Plant, Pool Boy, Rollergirl, and Black Dahlia. I always have a running wish list of more shades, because they are so fun!
Phew! That just about does it for my go-to lip products. I think this may have been my longest blog post, ever…but if you read through the whole thing-thank you! I could talk about lip products for days…I guess I technically already do?
Share your answers to these questions in the comments section! Would love to know your go-to lipstick shade!
