I’m so excited for The Makeup Show LA this year- it’s honestly one of my favorite shows to attend! This year TMS is bringing back some old favorites as well as adding some exciting things to the agenda. If you’re unfamiliar, TMS is a pro-only makeup show that brings the best brands + education to the forefront. Everything is heavily discounted & attendees are able to learn and network from the best in the biz– but, you do need some sort of professional credential to attend- whether it be a license, student ID, or proof of work in the beauty industry!
Some things I’m excited for? THE BRANDS. TMS is always stepping up their game and adding even more amazing brands year after year (I’ve been attending since 2011!). Some old favorites include NARS, Make Up For Ever, and Inglot. Some newer brands that have only been attending since last year are Sephora & Kat Von D. Urban Decay is exhibiting for the first time this year, which is super exciting because who doesn’t love their Naked palettes?
The Makeup Show also has the most fabulous seminars. One of my favorite celeb makeup artists Jamie Greenberg will be doing a panel with Temptu on Sunday. And the Kat Von D keynote hosted by James Vincent on Saturday is bound to be a crowd favorite! I always tend to forget about the seminars & keynotes- I’m too easily distracted by lipstick. But, this year I’m going to make it my mission to at least hit up one per day.
They’re also hosting a gala on Friday, March 18th to celebrate their 10th anniversary. The Makeup Show Gala ($115, or $105 with TMSLA ticket) is the perfect place to network with beauty industry heavyweights while enjoying hors d’oeuvres & cocktails.
The Makeup Show Beauty Tour sounds like it will be a blast- a $50 ticket will get you a seat on the bus where you will be able to visit several beauty landmarks in LA, such as: The Hollywood Museum, Make Up For Ever, Frends, Cinema Secrets, and NARS. Even better, you’ll get to take home a gift! The bus tour is on Monday, March 21st from 1pm-6pm, reserve quickly- as the seats are sure to fill up!
Also- a fun bonus for my LA readers! Enter for a chance to win a ticket to The Makeup Show LA by commenting below with what you’re most excited for about the show! I’ll be picking a winner on Tuesday, March 15th.
If you’re not in Los Angeles, fear not, TMS also has events in NYC, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, and Orlando. Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter & Instagram to keep up with me during the show- I’m hoping to share some fun snaps from the show and do a full recap on the blog afterwards!
I was so excited to get the opportunity to host my first *ever* party at my apartment this past weekend thanks to Lipton. I have always wanted to throw a party but was always pretty intimidated by the idea- but I knew that my friends would love a brunch + tea party, so that’s exactly what I decided to do!
Lipton’s new black and herbal varieties and improved green teas refresh the tea experience with bold and stimulating flavors, such as Enticing Chai, Pure Green, Orange Passionfruit Jasmine and Peach Mango. I have tried out quite a few of the flavors, and I have to say- I’m impressed! Personally I love the black teas. The Lipton Amazingly Grey, Daring English Breakfast, and Stirring Ceylon teas are definitely going to be finished quickly because I’m obsessed! If you’re a fan of fruity teas, try the Peach Mango or Purple Açai Blueberry flavors that would be great hot or iced. I made sure to have a wide selection of teas for my friends, because everyone likes something different, and thankfully Lipton has something for everyones tastes.
I created a fun DIY tea bar so my friends could come up and make their tea just the way they like it. An electric kettle is a must for a tea party to ensure you always have hot water. Don’t forget cream and various sweeteners to appeal to everyone’s tastebuds. For some added flair, I got a banner and put letter stickers on to say “Tea Time” and I thought it looked super cute! I decorated the table with flowers, a chalkboard frame, and some gold- a fringey table skirt and some confetti! The place cards are a nice touch so everyone knows what everything is- taking out the guesswork!
I really wanted to create a fun selfie photo booth wall to take pictures at. I used the same table skirt (you can also use a long version meant for a door!), a tassel garland, and some balloons all in the same color scheme. I put a soft box studio light in front to ensure that it was the perfect selfie lighting!
Sugar cubes are a tea time classic, so I made my own using a cute jewel candy mold I found at a craft store. You mix a small amount of sugar with water (1/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons water) and food coloring and press it in the mold to dry overnight. They didn’t turn out perfect, but they kind of looked like rose petals so I thought they were cute anyway! And how cute are they in the classic tea set sugar dish?!
I made a fun tablescape with a white tablecloth, striped placemats, paper doilies, and the same gold confetti. I had a great flower arrangement in the center of the table and made sure to have lots of brunch snacks for my guests to enjoy! The name place cards to go with the teacups was a fun added touch that everyone enjoyed. You can easily do a party on a budget- everything I got was either borrowed, or from stores like Target, Paper Source, and Hobby Lobby. Overall I think the party was a hit & now I’m coming up with more ways to have parties in the future.
Don’t forget to try out the new & improved Lipton Teas- check out the full line-up of Lipton Green, Black and Herbal tea flavors here.

If you follow me on instagram @oliviafrescura, you may have seen this photo I posted on Thursday of Sophia Amoruso, Courtney Love, and myself at the launch party/meet and greet of the new Nasty Gal & Courtney Love collaboration. I had seen on twitter that they were hosting this event & I knew my sister Victoria and I had to go. We *love* Hole because of our Dad (we used to listen to the CDs in the car on the way to elementary school…), and we all saw her perform at the Hollywood Bowl last year opening for Lana Del Rey. But, meeting her would be even better!

So- we headed there early so we could be one of the first 100 in line (they promised free tiaras so it was necessary). Thankfully there wasn’t much of a crowd so we were one of the first 10-15 in line. So, we just chilled in line as we were a little less than 2 hours early. We were starving, so, naturally, we ordered Prime Pizza to be delivered to us in the line via Postmates. Genius. (P.S. Use my code nysbd for $10 in free credit towards delivery fees for both you and me!)
Then, several people came out handing us tiaras, cake, and water before the event even started which I thought was great- especially to keep those further in the back happy! This prompted many photos…We had brought all 3 of our dad’s CDs just in case we could get at least one of them signed.
The window was decorated with cakes, mannequins wearing the line, and a cute Love Courtney neon sign. After we got our tiaras & cake, we asked some random behind us in line to take our photo. For the memories, obviously. 💁🏻
We didn’t have to wait long at all once the event started- they only allowed one photo, but since I was with my sister she got this great candid one of us as well. I felt bad because on your phone they literally only snapped one photo, and in my sister’s one nobody is smiling except her! But, I got some candid ones that helped. It was honestly a really rushed meet & greet and didn’t leave a lot of time for talking, which was alright- but my sister gave Courtney our Dad’s Celebrity Skin CD & she signed it- success!
We browsed around the store (I’ve never been) & checked out some of the line. They have a lot of cute stuff in both the Courtney Love collaboration & the regular line, but obviously I wouldn’t fit into any of it. But, my sister tried some things on & they all looked great. Side note: the Nasty Gal Melrose dressing rooms are HUGE and the door is a two-way mirror which is both cool & kind of creepy. But mostly cool.
After we left, we grabbed some food at one of my favorite places, The Bun Shop, and on the way we went through Nasty Gal’s snapchat to see what they wound up posting. I was watching & then all of a sudden I realized- hey, that’s me! I had to watch it maybe 10 times to get the best screenshot. So funny. Did any of you guys see me?!
Needless to say it was quite the eventful Thursday. Unfortunately my sister was leaving to go back to college the next day- so it really couldn’t have been at a better time! It was *the* most fun.
P.S. The #NastyGalxCourtneyLove collaboration is live on the site + in stores now. Shop away for major 90s grunge vibes…
