When I heard about RocksBox, I thought the idea of a jewelry subscription service sounded amazing…and then I realized I had to send it all back after 60 days. After that minor pang of disappointment, I looked more into the company and found that, essentially, it’s a great option for those who like trendy jewelry, have a special event, etc. The service is $19 a month, not for each box, which can be great for a busy event-going lady. You also can purchase pieces at a members-only price.
Much like any other subscription service, you complete a style profile that is very detailed (i.e. no mixed metal/only necklaces). Then, the stylists pick out 3 pieces for you and ship it out. I placed my order at the end of March, and it took nearly 2 months until it got to me finally. I thought that was ridiculous, but they assured me that the first box is the slowest to get out. We will see about that!
In my box, I received CC Skye‘s Power Pendant Necklace, Urban Gem’s Leather & Gold (but it’s silver?) Triad Bracelet Set, and Salty Fox Jewelry‘s Isolde Necklace. My favorite was the CC Skye necklace ($155 retail/$124 as a member)- I wore it the most, and I got compliments on it! I have always wanted some of CC Skye’s spikes, because I love to collect spike bracelets and hers are a lot higher quality than F21.
I loved the Urban Gem set of 3 bracelets, the spiked one was my favorite of the 3, the cuff didn’t fit my large wrist, and the wrap bracelet didn’t fit quite right, either. This set had a retail of $90, on sale to members for $72…which I thought was a crazy price because they didn’t feel as high quality as the previous necklace…and this happened…
A green wrist…SWEET. Even if it’s a set, I don’t think the $90 retail is justified at all for the quality. That isn’t RocksBox fault, though…I would much rather buy 10 bracelets from F21 that I can be green with.
And the last one, Salty Fox Jewelry’s Isolde Necklace (the necklace on the right of the first photo), just wasn’t my style, so I didn’t even bother. I think it is cool and unique, though…it’s just for a very particular type of gal. This one retails for $110, and members can snag it for $88.
You have 60 days to return the jewelry, so I feel like some of these pieces could get a lot of wear and tear. If you want to keep a piece, just keep it and they will charge you. I think that is a bit strange, because how many people have worn said piece before you? I feel like the “member’s price” should be substantially lower, since you are buying used jewelry. They do sanitize every piece before shipping, though!
I have very mixed feelings about this service, right now. I have heard great things but I think I got dealt a bad hand for my first impression…I will keep you updated with my next box…I have a subscription until September, thanks to iFabbo, but waiting for my first box took up a lot of that time…
Since that time I prefer only Metal Couture! More on the company here.
