January’s Birchbox theme was “Best Year Ever,” which is the perfect start to 2013. It even came with a list of 25 things to make the year awesome. Not only was that awesome, but the products inside were as well! I will list everything and give a short review of my first impressions of these products for you guys!
Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre ($28): This moisturizer is one of the most talked about products among makeup artists. I was really excited to receive it, and even applied it as soon as I opened it. I loved how it made my skin feel, so I looked at the ingredients and found mineral oil, a pore clogging ingredient that I avoid with every bit of my life. So, unfortunately I can’t enjoy it.
Deborah Lippmann The Stripper to go ($12): This product is a finger mitt that you can use to remove your nail polish (claims all 10 nails)! These aren’t a product that I’d regularly buy, but I find that they would be super handy for travel. My mitt actually tore along the seam, so I just used it like I would use a cotton pad. It was very saturated with remover and smelled like lavender. I liked it, and it worked, but I wasn’t in love.
theBalm Hot Mama Blush ($20): Hot Mama is a very shimmery coral blush with a ton of gold in it. It reminds me of NARS Orgasm (which I don’t have), or a bolder version of Benefit Coralista. This is a gorgeous blush that is very wearable. Since it has shimmer I don’t like to wear a highlight with it! I find that the color is just right….not too light and not too bold.
Aerie Shimmer Perfume ($39.95): Aerie is a lingerie store that is owned by American Eagle, and they have a few fragrances as well. Shimmer is their latest launch and it is described as a delicate and warm scent. Because it was wrapped in a candy-wrapper like foil, I thought it would smell sickly sweet like candy. Luckily, this is a beautiful mature scent with vanilla and bergamot that lasts FOREVER on me. I wore it for a good 8 hours and could still smell it faintly. If you have issues with scents “sticking” to you, I’d recommend it!
Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo ($32): I’m not crazy about getting shampoos in my boxes because I’m not picky about shampoo at all, but I’ve heard great things about this brand and have never tried a clarifying shampoo before. I liked it at first but found that my hair became oilier than it typically does, so I have to pass. Especially because it’s so expensive! If you have dry hair and use a lot of product, I’d recommend this to clarify and moisturize your hair appropriately, but it didn’t work for my hair type.
All of these products are available on the Birchbox shop! The big winners for me were definitely the blush and fragrance!
What did you get in your January box? Can’t wait for next month! (single’s awareness day themed please?)
